What To Look For When Buying A Dryer

What do I look for in a dryer?

One of the first things to decide on, as with most appliances, is whether you want to run it on gas or electric. If gas is available to you, running a dryer on it can reduce this part of your power bill by up to two-thirds.

Another thing that really helps promote efficiency and reduce wear and tear on your clothes is finding a dryer with a moisture sensor and automatic shut-down. Instead of tumbling your clothes in heat for a specified amount of time, the moisture sensor will shut the machine down once the clothes are dry, which in turn will reduce costs and preserve fabrics.

Permanent press is a feature that will rush cool air over your clothes during the final minutes of drying to reduce wrinkles.

When there is a need to wash and dry odd items such as tennis shoes or stuffed animals, a drying rack is a nice feature which will aid in the maintenance of both the articles being dried and the machine itself. Tennis shoes banging around inside the drum produce balancing issues as well as wear-and-tear, not to mention the shoes themselves being abused.

What are the features we need from a dryer? What makes one better than the other? Let’s take a look…

Auto-Dry stops the drying process when fabric is deemed dry by a moisture sensor reducing wear-and-tear on your clothes.

Drying Racks are handy for tennis shoes or other items you don’t want getting tossed around in the drum.

Permanent Press settings shoot cooler air onto the clothes during the final moments of the drying cycle to reduce wrinkles.

Stackable washers and dryers stack on top of one another to take up less space.

Wrinkle Guard runs the dryer every so often for a few seconds to keep clothes from wrinkling should you forget they are in there.

Drop-down Hamper Door allows for easier access and prevents droppage.

A Light allows you to see what remains in the drum. No more missing socks!
