What To Look For When Buying A Freezer

Why use a freezer?

A freezer is a great way to store food for longer periods of time. You can cook a big meal and then freeze smaller portions. This will save you money and time. You will take fewer trips to the grocery store, which reduces cost of gas, food, and time.

What’s the difference between a stand up freezer and a chest freezer?

Every time you open a stand up freezer, all the air you are paying to cool pours out on to the floor. Why would you want to pay to have a cold floor?

When you open a chest freezer all the cold air stays in the box.

A chest freezer may not be as convenient as a stand up freezer, but you will save lots of money by using one. Plus, you can use baskets on the sides of the freezer to make food easier to access. You want to keep your freezer away from sources of heat such as your oven or windows where sunlight pours in. This helps keep the cool air cool. Also, you want to defrost if the ice lining the freezer gets near ½ inch thick. This will allow you to get the most from your freezer, and keep more money in your wallet. Keep your freezer full. A freezer full of food means less air to cool and less energy to use.

A couple of things to think about before buying that freezer.

Frost-free freezers automatically defrost the freezer by melting ice off the sides for you.

A Light is handy for locating items at the back or bottom of your freezer.
