    Frequently Asked Air Conditioner Questions

    • What types of air conditioning systems do you install?

Currently our most popular product offerings are Goodman Heat Pump systems from 1.5 Ton systems to 5 Ton systems. These are a great solution to what most Florida homeowners are looking for in a central A/C system. If needed, we can source and install a range of systems. Our team can guide you in choosing the best option for your home or business.

    • How often should my air conditioner be serviced?

We recommend having your air conditioner serviced at least once a year. Regular maintenance helps improve performance, reduce energy costs, and extend the lifespan of your system. When you purchase and have your Central A/C system installed by Appliance Direct, you will receive a Ten Year Parts and Ten Year Labor Warranty, and you will have the opportunity to purchase a long-term Maintenance Policy as well.

    • How long does an installation take?

There are many factors that determine how long it takes to install a new Air Handler and Condenser in your home. Most residential installations take 4–8 hours, depending on system type and property layout. Larger or more complex installations may take longer.

    • What size air conditioner do I need for my home?

The correct size depends on your home’s square footage, insulation, ceiling height, number of windows, local climate, and heat-producing appliances. A professional should perform a load calculation (Manual J) to determine the proper capacity.

    • Will a new AC installation decrease my energy bills?

A properly sized, high-efficiency system can actually reduce your energy bills compared to older or less efficient units. Many good quality systems may require a lower ton specification than older units. Meaning your upfront costs are less.

    • How much does a new air conditioning system cost?

We install new A/C Systems with a 10 Year Parts and 10 Year Labor Warranty for as low as $6935, or just $69 per month (with approved credit). While most homeowners have a pretty good idea of the correct size needed to replace their Air Conditioner, we offer free on-site assessments and quotes so you know exactly what to expect before the work begins.

    • How can I reduce my energy bills with my A/C?

      To maximize efficiency:

      • Keep filters clean
      • Schedule annual servicing
      • Seal doors and windows
      • Use a programmable thermostat
      • Choose energy-efficient models

Our team can provide personalized tips based on your usage and system type!

    • Do you offer warranties?

Yes. All Goodman A/C systems come with a 10-year parts and 1-year labor warranty. However, when you buy your A/C system and have it installed through Appliance Direct, we extend your Labor Warranty to 10 Years as well (an Appliance Direct exclusive). Since there are few things in the world more frustrating than having to pay a technician to come out and replace a part that is under warranty, we extend your labor warranty to last as long as your parts warranty. Our technicians will explain your coverage during installation.

    • What areas do you service?

Currently, Appliance Direct sells and installs new Central A/C systems in Brevard County, Florida only.

    • How do I schedule a service or request a quote?

You can call us, schedule an estimate online, or fill out our contact form and a member of our team will get back to you quickly to arrange an in-home estimate. At that point, if you wish to move forward with your new A/C System, your installation will be scheduled. You will pay nothing until your new air conditioner is installed and inspected.

    • What are the signs my AC needs repair or replacement?

      Common signs include:

      • Weak or warm airflow
      • Unusual noises or smells
      • Higher energy bills
      • Frequent cycling on and off
      • Water leaks or excess humidity

If you notice any of these issues, it’s best to schedule a technician visit.

    • What refrigerants do central air systems use, and why?

Most modern installations use R32 or R410A refrigerants due to their high efficiency and lower environmental impact.

      • R32: Lower GWP, higher efficiency, runs at lower charge volumes.
      • R410A: Widely used in existing systems but being phased out in some regions due to environmental regulations.

We only install systems compliant with current refrigerant standards in your area.

    • How do I know what capacity (kW or BTU) my property needs?

We perform a heat load calculation using factors such as:

      • Room volume and insulation
      • Window size, glazing type, and orientation
      • Occupancy levels
      • Equipment/lighting heat output
      • Local climate conditions

Accurate load calculations ensure optimal efficiency and prevent oversizing or undersizing.

    • Why is my AC freezing up or forming ice on the evaporator coil?

      Common technical causes include:

      • Low refrigerant charge
      • Restricted airflow (dirty filters, blocked ducts, failed blower motor)
      • Faulty expansion valve or TXV
      • Thermostat sensor issues

A technician will check pressures, airflow, and coil temperature to diagnose the root cause.

    • How often should refrigerant levels be checked?

Refrigerant should not “run out” — a drop indicates a leak. We recommend:

      • Annual inspection for commercial/industrial systems
      • Every 18–24 months for residential systems

Leak detection includes checking brazed joints, flare fittings, evaporator coils, and service ports using electronic sniffers or UV dye.

    • How long should an AC compressor last?

A well-maintained compressor typically lasts 10–15 years, depending on:

      • Refrigerant type
      • Duty cycle and load
      • Maintenance quality
      • Voltage stability

Our installations include surge protection and proper commissioning to extend compressor life.

    • What is included in a professional AC replacement process?

      Our completed install checklist includes:

      • Refrigerant pressure and superheat/subcooling verification
      • Airflow measurement and static pressure balancing
      • Thermostat calibration
      • Electrical load and current draw testing
      • Leak checks
      • Drainage and condensate inspection

Proper installation and start-up ensures long-term performance and prevents early system failures.

    • Do I need to replace my ductwork?

Not always. Ductwork needs replacing or repairing if it is:

      • Leaking
      • Undersized or badly designed
      • Contaminated or moldy

A technician will inspect it to confirm if replacement is necessary. Ask for a detailed quote that includes equipment, labor, and add‑ons.

    • Do I need a permit for AC installation?

In many areas, yes. Our licensed installation partner will handle the permit process. When your installation is complete, you may have to be available for an inspector to come out to confirm the job has been completed properly. If needed, the inspection will only take a few minutes.

    • How often should my Central Air Conditioning system be maintained after installation?

At least once a year. Routine maintenance helps:

      • Improve efficiency
      • Extend equipment lifespan
      • Prevent breakdowns

We recommend you consider an annual maintenance agreement to keep your system running efficiently, but that decision is up to you, and not required.

    • What is SEER, and why is it important?

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures cooling efficiency. Higher SEER ratings mean lower energy usage and lower electricity bills.

    • Can I install an AC unit myself?

DIY installation is not recommended. Professional installation by a licensed company is required to keep your factory warranty valid. It also ensures:

      • Correct sizing
      • Proper refrigerant handling
      • Safe electrical connections
    • How long do AC systems typically last?

While many systems last 12–15 years with proper maintenance, there are many factors that can affect the life of your system.

    • What should I do before installation day?

      • Clear the indoor and outdoor work areas
      • Ensure access to the electrical panel
      • Confirm pets are secured
      • Review installation plan with the technician
